Green & Gold win in Rocky

Green & Gold win in Rocky

14 July 2012

Girls' Division

NSW Metro Girls’ Green and NSW Country Boys’ Gold have taken out the 2012 Australian U15 Regional Championship in Rockhampton.

Metro Green met NSW Metro Red in the Girls’ grand final game after defeating Vic Blue Diamonds in the sudden death playoff 7-3. Undefeated in the Championship, Metro Red got off to a strong start scoring four runs, but Metro Green had the answers scoring three in their opening innings to stay in touch. Metro Red managed a further run at the top of the second to extend their lead to two. Metro Green combined in the bottom of the second to pile on six runs, including a huge homerun to swing their game in their favour.

As expected, Metro Red fought back to reduce the lead to just one heading into the bottom of the fourth, But with time getting close to 90 minutes, their batting opportunities were running out. Metro Green put the icing on the cake with two runs in the bottom of the fourth to claim the Championship 11-8.

Boys' Division

The Boys’ grand final saw local team Qld Storm take on NSW Country Gold, after finishing the round first and second respectively.

The game started with a flurry of runs, with Country Gold leading off with four runs on the scoreboard. Storm hit back with strong hitting through the homerun line to accumulate three runs themselves.

Country Gold set the game up with some aggressive base running in the second, enabling them to score a further five runs and increase their lead to six. Defensive pressure from Country Gold reduced Storm to just one run in the bottom of the second giving them a strangle hold on the game.

With the game firmly in their hands, Country Gold did not let up, scoring another three runs in the top of the third to all but seal the win. In their final bat, Storm managed to score three runs, however Country Gold could not be caught with the game finishing 12-6.
